I have had a couple of issues with Garageband, first with GB not finding the EW library. I would much prefer a persistent toggle that lets me step through a selection of voices and articulations more seamlessly. This slows down the process and breaks some focus on the sounds. The only thing I find a little annoying is the need to choose Replace or Add To when browsing for voices while listening to playback. The solo instruments are great overall, with only a little hint of synth error at the extreme ranges - but even that gets buried with appropriate tweaks to orchestration. The results are pretty natural and smooth, especially when layering up parts. I am working on an older Macbook Pro, writing in Presonus Notion for iOS on an iPad Pro.ĮW's Player 6 has a nice range of expressive controls, allowing you to easily choose general articulation styles and voicing tones with written MIDI parts. Both the sound quality of the samples and the voicing rules built into this library have helped me write quickly and accurately develop parts in range for various instruments. I have been away from writing for over two decades, and no longer have direct access to musicians for helping develop parts. On ApMusic Background: Getting back to writing after 25 years I'm not sure I can say enough about this product, so just go out and try it! I HIGHLY recommend. It has anvils, triangles, and harps that sound great - even a nice harpsichord. This one program has massively improved the overall quality of my compositions. Overall, I got this during one of EastWest's 50% off sales (that they do often).this is a STEAL.

The strings, percussion, brass, and woodwinds all sound completely realistic, giving you a full orchestral sound. While slightly aged compared to more recent programs, it is an absolute classic program - polished and refined down to the smallest detail. If you are sticking to the strict orchestra sound (not really anything world music or fantasy in nature), then Symphonic Orchestra is a no brainer. It's won many awards, and the sound engineer behind this program himself has many awards. I wish I could give this one a 5.5! It really is that exceptional and impressive.
